Olympic Lagoon Resort at Ayia Napa, Cyprus - Hotel Review
I have visited Ayia Napa, Cyprus in October 2010, and stayed at "Olympic Lagoon Resort" hotel with a friend for four days. The staff told us the place was going to be renovated and upgraded with more swimming-pools, clubs and new furniture.
The place was beautiful even then, with great food and beverages, nice big swimming pools and pleasant staff. There were mainly old guests at the hotel, or families with young children. A great place for a quiet stay, with night shows and day activity. We stayed to watch a night show, with a good singer and great dancers.
There is also a massager at the hotel, but we came in late and the list was already full. So I settled for a facial instead. The woman was friendly and pleasant. I did not see any change after her treatment, but enjoyed it and tipped her nicely.
Our room was beautiful as well, as it should be for a 4 star hotel, with a small porch viewing the highway. My friend visited many 5 star hotels in her life, and she said it looked like a 5 star hotel as well. She guessed the only reason it was a 4 star hotel was the fact that it was not close enough to the sea. But just across the road from the hotel, behind one row of houses – there was the sea. A beautiful and clean beach, with clear water.
If I ever go back to Ayia Napa, Cyprus, this is the hotel I would like to stay at. My friend said the same thing. We saw some other hotels in the city, and this one was the best by far. It is not located in the middle of the city, which makes a short walk to the center, for at least ten minuets, but there is always the alternative of taking a bus. You can catch a bus from just across the road, and it only costs 2€. The bus will take you anywhere at that price.
If you wish to save money on food – there is a supermarket just outside the hotel. We asked the staff for some plates, knives and forks, but you can bring some with you to avoid the inconvenience. There are 2 glasses in the hotel room, and of course a mini bar. We only used the mini bar as a refrigerator for the food we bought.
The doorman will be taking your luggage to your room, so be sure to prepare a small tip for him. Saying you can handle it yourself might not help... He insisted in helping us, although we only had 3 small bags that we could carry very easily, and there was an elevator for the second floor, so we did not sweat at all!
Ayia Napa is a small tourist city, with many places to eat and drink, and buy souvenirs. The beaches are all nice and clean. A good place for a calm weekend.
